A Minty Christmas

In my last post, I mentioned how lucky I am to have the entire week off - when I get back to work and the water cooler chatter begins, it's difficult to recall all the things I enjoyed with that much time off so I decided to chronicle it!

Friday - Christmas movies w/the hubs and pups
Saturday - Facial and spa treatment, shopping, celebrate Grandma's b-day with a fat pizza dinner
Sunday - Denver BRONCOS game, we won, there was sun, it was awesome ~
Monday - Grabbed a Downtown lunch, finished shopping, went to the family's for Christmas Eve
Tuesday - Woke up, baked cinnamon rolls , watched the pups annihilate presents, did our little family celebration, went to my Parents ate more :) came home watched Christmas movies, made our own feast and ate more (sensing a theme?)
Wednesday - Slept in, jammie and laundry day-then we went to my SIL's house for our little holiday that didn't happen on Tuesday
Thursday - Lots of random errands, insurance claim, credit card etc. then we watched The Dark Knight Rises since we skipped the theaters after the theater tragedy here in CO
Sorry if I'm giving a play-by-play but it helps me remember all that I accomplished =D. My Christmas mani was two coats of Sephora Hello Kitty Minty polish, a bit streaky but worked out with two coats. I then used the Christmas decals from Viva la Nails most recent blogger pack. They are super cute and even on the large side fit on my nails. I then sparkle-fied it with one coat of CND gold holo TC Gold Sparkling. Yes I'm a doof and put the pointer decal on upside down not once, but twice =(.

Santa Pants

Merry Christmas! If you celebrate that is, otherwise happy holidays or regular days! I freakin' love Christmas time - just the feel, the food, parties, decorations (on and on). We had a lovely, but busy, couple of days. I'm so fortunate to have a kick ass job and boss. Not only did we get a paid week off for the holiday and bonuses but I got a promotion weeeeee!
Hubby requested a Santa suit mani, whenever he has an idea for my blog or nails I definitely oblige because I love that he has an interest. I started with two coats of China Glaze Cranberry Splash ~ what a glowing shimmery stunner! It went on smooth with two nice coats. I then free-handed the belts with stripe rite black and the buckle with Sally Hansen City Lights.
Index  and thumb were two coats of Claire's unnamed Anna Sui copy polish in white shimmer then using striping tape and painting with one thick coat of Cranberry splash. Even with wrapping the tips, they were showing the next day =(. Did you get some nail goodies for the holidays? Honey got me the newest set of Bundle Monster plates, can't wait to play with them! Lastly, here's a shot of my little elves!

Fair Isle Mani ~ Part Deux

As I'm sure all of you are aware, if something isn't in style - wait longer. All things make their way back around. It may not be in our lifetime but it will happen. Last year this time, fair isle and Nordic print were all the rage and they've only gotten more popular. My original fair isle mani got a little love so I thought I would try one again with an array of colors.
I started with two coats of Icing's Mint Icing, a pale green metallic polish with a slight smattering of silver glitter. It looked so much more silver on the nail. Then I used the lace with bows accent stamp from plate m71 with special white konad on my pointer, Orly Fancy Fuchsia on my middle and Sinful Black on Black for my ring finger. I then used these same polishes on the opposite nails for the reindeer and snowflake from hbnails plate 012.
Lastly, I used striping tape to create the pink diamonds on my pinkie and thumb nail adding the white with a stripping polish. Do you ever finish a mani and say YES - this is what I was going for!? =D

3D Tree

Happy almost Friday! I've had a lot of vacation Mondays to use up before the end of the year and now this full week has felt especially long. I'm riding the Christmas parade float and am not seeing any exit signs soon. I thought I would do something gaudy and ended up with a 3D Tree mani.

I started with two coats of Icing Glimmer, a wonderful warm champagne cream with large gold shimmer. A tad of texture eck but worth it on the nail. I stamped the tree image from hbnails 012 plate and China Glaze Adore.
I was going to use a dotting tool for the ornaments but hello, big and bold is usually where I end up so why not slather this baby with jewels? I didn't use any glue, just topcoat so once I woke up we already had some casualties. While fun, it's nice to be back to a flat surface on my nails.

Quilted Glitter

Oh glitter manicure - how I love thee! This is one of my proud creations of late. I did not own any striping tape, but after seeing Mommy Does Her Nails Crosshatch mani I promptly made an order off eBay. Once my affordable 10-pack arrived I went to work.

I first used two coats of China Glaze Urban Night followed by Fast Forward top coat. I then created my striping pattern one painstakingly strip at a time (hubby helped too :) ) and topped with two coats of China Glaze Glitter All the Way. It was a tad course but well worth it.

Sugar Spin Me Right Round

Seeing all these colorful and creative sugar spun manis made me want to give it a spin. I started with two coats of Color Club De-Luxe-Cious, an untried for awhile. Very pretty gray glitter with a tint of blue. I had to thin it down since I'd never used it and it has sat so long. Since I'm the proud owner of some of the China Glaze Cirque du Soleil Collection I "spun" with Surreal Appeal, a vibrant neon pink.

A little tip, do not use a Styrofoam base for getting your accent polish thick, it ate right through the plate yikes! I think this is a win for my first attempt, I did use a topcoat so it would have some staying  power. My accent finger is two coats of Surreal Appeal with a cupcake sticker.

Pinspiration ~ Ombré French

By now I think we can agree that Pinterest is a wonderful time suck and amazing spot for all kinds of ideas and inspiration. I heart going to my mani board for new ideas, including this one! What a simple, but beautiful new take on the French mani! I traced it back to the creator and it seems to be a gel Japanese mani.

I started with two coats of China Glaze Sunset Sail. A peach nude with a hint of silver shimmer. I then mixed Sunset Sail and Sinful Snow Me White for the gradient with a makeup sponge, doing to rounds of sponging on each nail. I always need a hint of glitz so tried to stamp the animal print French image from plate with the holo hunkyness of China Glaze I'm Not Lion. It wasn't dense enough to pick up the full image but added the tiniest particles of holo on the tips which I'm good with too!

Vampy Poo

I've finally turned to the darkside, it is November and probably time to start using some seasonal colors. I don't think I've touched China Glaze's Fall 2011 Metro collection at all. This is two coats of Lofty Ambitions, a maroon polish with silver microshimmer. I then added one thick coat of Essie As Gold as it Gets. I wanted some wonderful layers under a stamp and felt this was a good base.
Then I stamped the shattered square image from m73 with China Glaze Hyper Haute from the Tronica Collection. I could see the holo a bit as it was later at night. Very hard to capture the next day and my photos don't really showcase all that's going on but I still consider this a vampy polish mani that = poo.

Let Them Eat Cake!

While eating cake sounds delicious, donning it on my nails is even more scrumptious! I had been eyeing Lush Lacquer's polishes for quite some time and broke down right after my birthday in June to purchase a few. What better polish to celebrate adding another year to my life than Birthday Cake? While this seems like a Spring must-have, I couldn't ignore her any longer.

This is two coats of Birthday Cake with a BC and TC. The base is a cream almost sheer pink jelly packed full of fun in the form of multi-colored hex, medium silver hex and bar glitter. I was going to stamp over but decided there was enough party going on for my taste.

Happy Howl-oween!

Yes I know I am a day late, and usually way more than a dollar short, but wanted to share my Halloween mani and my lil punkins! This is two coats of China Glaze Roguish Red, I thought it was going to be more like Hey Sailor, not really. It is much more burnt orange red. Great coverage in two coats. I wanted to completely cover my accent finger in China Glaze Glitter Goblin - that should be entertaining to remove = /.
It ended up being about four coats for mostly no bald spots. I then sponged on Glitter Goblin to the rest of my nails, one coat covered the beds nicely. An awesome chunky dark orange glitter with huge scattered holo glitter. I then added black cat Kiss stickers form probably 10 years ago to my middle fingers.
Oh yeah, here are my little pumpkins! Did you rock a costume, hand out candy, get wastey pants? We just handed out candy and watched scary movies. Hope everyone had a spooktacular evening!

Monarchs & Candy Corn

First off, I have to thank the fantastic Deuce Beauties for holding one of her many generous and saliva inducing giveaways! Because of her, I have my midget hands on Rainbow Polish Monarch. As soon as I unwrapped this from the mail I knew it was going to be a Halloween/Fall go to, the colors, the shapes oh my!

I started with two coats of Ulta Banana Rum in the Sun, a fairly thin pastel yellow cream. I then did two coats of Monarch chalked full of micro orange and yellow hex glitter, medium orange, yellow and black hex glitter, large yellow hex and finally the thing that always draws my eye, the black square glitter.
This is something I easily catch myself staring at just because the great variation in color, size and shape. On my accent fingers I painted one coat of  Sinful Snow Me White then sponged with Banana Rum and Zoya Lianne. I then evened it out and added some glitta with CND Silver Sparkling. Wore this for 6 days and finally started picking it off today ~

R.I.P. Spidey

While I don't have the talons I used to, I tend to like my nails shorter these days, I wasn't sure if this concept would fit. I was able to make it work. I started with two coats of China Glaze Love Letters for a subtle base. I waited about 10 mins before using Orly's French tip guides and a quick two coats of Orly R.I.P. as it's a black jelly base before quickly peeling them off.

For the final nail in the coffin I stamped the spideys from plate m27 with Sinful Black is Black. I sealed with a TC and another spooktacular mani for October. For the ring finger I did one thick coat of Black is Black with a full coat of R.I.P.

Do the Monsta Mash

Don't you just love the name of this polish? That alone just makes me like it, but those honkin' hex glitters that boast a beloved holo shine just seals the deal. I knew these would be a biotch to remove so made sure to use some undies. This is one coat of China Glaze Starboard. I then used two thick coats and tried to cover as much as possible with Glittering Goblin.

On my accent finger I used three coats of Pure Ice Mint Dream, an iridescent pearl shimmer that leans a bit green in the bottle, not so much on the nail. I then stamped the skull image from plate m28 using Starboard. I haven't gotten so many compliments on a mani in a long time so I deem this a success!

Halloween Lift-Off

I wanted to do a slew of Halloween manis for October! Thankfully my Halloween polishes arrived on my doorstep from Transdesign the other day. This mani is two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, it's such a nice opaque and creamy off white polish with a gray hue. I then stamped the shredded cheetah image from plate ML S301 with Sinful Black on Black.

Lastly I busted out my trusty dotting tool and added China Glaze Orange You Hot? to Halloweenie this up. I feel badly sometimes leaving so many untrieds when doing nail art, but we all know what we like and what works. Are you rockin' some Halloween manis?

Red-y for a Holo?

I'm ashamed to admit this gorgeous girl has been sitting in my untrieds for almost TWO YEARS! The lovely Cosmetic Cupcake got me this ravishing polish in a swap long, long ago and I finally decided to use the goodness that is Glitter Gal's Not Another Red. This is two coats with a basecoat.

I didn't use a topcoat thus the marks, but I didn't want to ruin that shiny goodness. I then stamped the tips with konad plate m62 and Color Club Worth the Risque. I did have tip wear and the image started rubbing off after a few days but definitely something I was dazed by on a daily basis =D.

Wedding Colors Watermarble

As my previous post stated, my honey and I just celebrated our third wedding anniversary so I thought I would continue the festivities with a watermarble using my wedding colors. They were watermelon hot pink and Tiffany blue. This is one coat of Zoya Kiki, a sheer hot pink polish with pink glass fleck glitter. I then used China Glaze Aquadelic with Kiki .
I've never done the back and forth lined watermarble and it seemed more challenging than my norm watermarble but I like the effect. I'll have to practice this technique a bit more. I also stamped the heart image from Salon Express plate 18 with China Glaze Avalanche on my index and thumb, just look for the swirlies!

Roll the Dice in VEGAS - Pic Heavy

So one of my all-time fave quick getaways is LAS VEGAS! No only was I married there but it's a great vacay my hubby and I try to take as often as possible. Unfortunately the way we do Vegas isn't the most economical - we like to gamble, imbibe, go to shows etc. Thankfully this year we were able to celebrate our wedding anniversary there and had so much fun. We didn't come back thousand-airs but there's always next time.

I had to do a mani to fit the occasion. This is two coats of Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers, a black jelly with various sized red hex glitter. The accent nails are two coats of T.B.N. Frosty Red then using Cina Vegas style stickers. We decided to check out The Palms at 2am and wouldn't ya know ended up playing roulette with Bam Margera for an hour. Please excuse how awesome I look, it was 2am...
